Whether cosmetic and nothing more than a nuisance, or structural and a cause for concern and replacement, manufacturing processes and the defects that they can cause are important to understand when studying commercial roof systems. Donan Engineering has been involved in numerous projects where problems or conditions have been misdiagnosed as manufacturing defects, and countless others where valid defects have been alleged as hail, improper ventilation, normal wear and tear, installer activities, etc.

There is no textbook that illustrates a comprehensive list of manufacturing defects and how they occur. Our experienced engineers have successfully identified many of the proven and most common defects, and we strongly encourage all professionals to be knowledgeable of these issues prior to interpreting roof damage.
